" Every hour  in the UK 7 people die because of Asthma  attacks"
Recently Funzone staff completed a First Aid course and were informed  of this fact, and we were shocked. In this day and age no child should ever die because of Asthma.

this article in the telegraph explains that 9 out of 10 deaths can be prevented, ihttp://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/healthnews/9354582/Asthma-1000-deaths-a-year-preventable.html"
Too many people with the disease do not understand how important it is to use their inhaler, which stops the condition getting worse over time, they say.
As many as eight million people in Britain have asthma, but most regard it as a mild disease that causes the odd episode of wheezy breathing
Dr Dinesh Saralaya, who runs a specialist clinic in Bradford, said most asthmatics were surprised when told that the disease could kill."

If your child suffers from Asthma, please ensure that they have an inhaler whilst at the club. If a child has Asthma  and no inhaler we reserve the right to refuse entry to the club. We take your child's health very seriously

New club is a great success...........

The new club was a resounding success. The children loved the new rooms, the computers,  new funky fluffy cushions, new craft materials, big squidgy sofa, and even preparing their own snacks!
The children have even been seen with a hoover in their hands on occasions, asking staff if they can help with keeping the room tidy.... Im sure the stickers given out had nothing to do with that!!!!  :)
We are delighted that the feedback from all the children has been incredibly positive.... they certainly like to have their own space and freedom.
Sadly we will be losing a few of our year six children in a few weeks, and we want to wish them every success in their new schools , and hope they will pop by occasionally to say hi to us and let us all know how they are doing. they will be missed by the club.

Our new year 5 and 6 club is ready to open!

We have now taken  over the youth wing of Mrs Howard Memorial hall and have set up our year 5 and 6 club. We took the children over to visit and have a question and answer session and THEY LOVED IT!
They are very very excited to go over to their new club..........
We will open  after the Easter holidays.
children will be collected from school as usual, have biscuits and fruit with their younger siblings and friends, then  leave the main hall to go over to their own space, where they can help prepare their own snacks, play on the new games console, watch a dvd, play music, sit and do some arts and crafts based activity, do homework, chill out and do what they want to do (within reason!) and at 5.30pm they will return to the main hall.
If you collect your child before 5.30pm you will need to come to the main entrance and ring the bell or buzzer to be let in.

Bullying  advice

There is lots of information around about bullying, so i thought i would do a blog on  what is bullying  how you can prevent bullying and what to do if you think your child is being bullied.

Bullying can happen to anyone at any age. Being bullied at school, home or online might involve someone pushing you, hitting you, teasing you, talking about you or calling you names. No one has the right to hurt you or make you feel bad. If you are being bullied you don't have to put up with it - you can talk to someone about it. Bullying can be many things and here are a few examples.
  • being called names
  • being put down or humiliated
  • being teased
  • being pushed or pulled about
  • having money and other possessions taken or messed about with
  • having rumours spread about you
  • being ignored and left out
  • being hit, kicked or physically hurt
  • being threatened or intimidated

How to prevent bullying?
parents, staff, playworkers and other caring adults have a role to play in preventing bullying. They can help kids understand bullying, keep the lines of communication open, encourage kids to do what they love, and model how to treat others with kindness and respect.

Talk about bullying and what is unacceptable behaviour with your child, to help give them the confidence to report bullying.
Children must know that they aren't the problem! All children have a right to feel safe and secure wherever they are.
If you are being bullied, spend time with friends as bullies hardly ever pick on others if they are in a group
Try ignoring the bully when they say something, walk away and find an adult who you trust  to tell what is going on. Adults can help make any bulling stop. If you are too afraid to tell an adult, tell a friend and they can tell for you.
Adults
If you feel your child may be the victim of bullying, please speak to staff and we can observe your child playing at the club, and prevent any unwanted behaviour. If it is at school, speak to the class teacher or head teacher so that adults are aware of your concerns.

Welcome to our fist blog.

I cant promise to post on a regular basis, but i aim to post occasionally. I do  start off with all good intentions then forget how to do stuff on the net or passwords are forgotten,  but i will try to  keep you up to date with whats going on at the club from time to time. there will be some interesting articles and tips and advice, along with some fun posts.
This website is created by me, for our club so we can keep it up to date with all the things you need for booking holiday clubs,  read the newsletters that usually end up in the bottom of the school bags, and download relevant forms needed for anything out of the usual, ie After School clubs your child may want to attend. If anyone has any good ideas or suggestions for topics on the blogs  please share and we will see if we can include them.

Remember if you book the holiday club four weeks in advance you get a discount, and from now on all plans will be one club ahead, ie now (March) there are the Easter club plans, and also the June Half term plans and booking form will be online at the same time.
In June, the summer holiday club plans and booking forms  will be ready to download and return.

This new website is to help us to be more efficient in being prepared in advance for you to book easily.
